Questions about short letters

Why is the letter so short?

Because a short letter gets read. Three or four plain sentences say who you are, why you are writing, and how to reach you. We have mailed over a million letters, and we tried the long ones (3 and 4 pages, with headlines and a list of reasons to act now) before we settled on a short one.

Does a short letter really work better than a long one?

In our own mailings, one simple page earned a better return for the money than the longer letters, and it costs much less to print and mail. Your results will be different, because every list, market and mailing is different. That is why Brew Letters starts you at a short letter and lets you change every word.

Why one page, one side?

It is the cheapest and easiest thing to read. One sheet, one envelope, one stamp. Nothing to flip, nothing to skim past. The back of the sheet is optional, and is best used for your reviews, not for more words.

Why a quiet hello and not a sales pitch?

Many of the people we write to are going through something hard, like a loss in the family, a late payment or a house that has become a burden. A hard sell does not help them. They also do not always call the first number they see: many look you up first. So the letter is a kind hello that makes you easy to find, and it says, call me when you are ready.

What are the three sentences?

The W.H.O. formula, one sentence each: Who it is for and who you are, a Hook that is specific to them (their house, their city), and one clear, low-pressure Offer. Your phone, email, website and QR code go underneath.
